The following is
a brief description of enclosure types relating to their environmental
capabilities.
TYPE 1: Enclosures
are intended for indoor use primarily to provide a degree
of protection amounts of falling dirt.
TYPE 3R: Enclosures
are intended for outdoor use and primarily provide a degree
of protection against rain, sleet, and damage from external
ice formation.
TYPE 3: Enclosures
are intended for indoor or out door use primarily to provide
a degree protection against windblown dust and rain, splashing
water, hose-directed water and damage from external ice
formation.
THICKNESS OF METAL
CUTOUT BOXES AND CABINETS WITH HINGE DOORS OR SCREW COVERS:
No.16 gauge is used where
no surface areas exceeds 360 square inches, and if no single
dimension is over 24 inches.
No.14 gauge is used where no surface
area exceeds 1000 square inches, and if no single dimension
is over 40 inches.
No.12 gauge is used where no surface area exceeds 1500
square inches, and if no single dimension is over 60 inches.
No. 10 gauge is used for any cabinet larger than noted above.

Hardware-
Lock only, Catch only, or Combination Lock and Catch.
Orders
for Special boxes cannot be cancelled. Boxes with a depth greater
than 6” or heavier than code gauge are not normally furnished
with knockouts, unless specified.
